Mordovia – CSKA Highlights

Only nine rounds have been played in the Russian Premier League but it is almost safe to say that Mordovia – CSKA Moscow was this season’s most exciting match. The match had it all; drama, red cards, and great goals, and more importantly plenty of them! The party started after only 30 seconds as Mordovia took advantage of a mistake by CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev. From here it only got worse for the guests as Mario Fernandes was shown a red card not long after, and when the clock hit 15 minutes CSKA were trailing 3-0.

Things were however turned around in the second half, as one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Russian football started, when CSKA got on 3-3 while Mordovia were also reduced to ten men. From here Mordovia got back in front before two goals from Ahmed Musa and one from Seydou Doumbia between the 80th and the 88th minute got CSKA from being down 4-3 to leading, and winning 4-6.

This was furthermore the first time an away team scored six goals since Shinnik lost 6-1 to Rostov in September 2006.
