Despite their success on the pitch, FC Rostov are in deep financial problems, and a new chapter was written in their story the other day. Together with Perm based Amkar, Rostov have been banned from registering new players by the Russian Football Union’s Dispute Resolution Chamber.
In Amkar’s case the punishment was given for not fulfilling the instructions given by the Player’s Status Committee, as Amkar failed to live up to their obligations to the now former head coach Slavoljub Muslin. Muslin was hired by Amkar last summer, and sacked after the first half of the season as he failed to live up to the expectations from the board. Later Muslin revealed that during his six-month stay in Perm, he had only been paid once.
Rostov on the other hand are yet to pay debts to their former player Hrvoje Milic, just like they haven’t paid Rubin Kazan for the transfer of Sardar Azmoun. The Iranian international moved to Kurban Berdyev’s Rostov on loan this summer.
The Dispute Resolution Chamber also settled a claim from the now former Rostov goalkeeper Anton Amelchenko, who demands a compensation for the club terminating his contract.
Rostov’s financial problems have been known for a long time, and in February it was rumoured that the club’s total debt was on more than €10 million, and only because of a bailout from Rostov-resident and former club president Ivan Savvidis, the club was allowed to stay in the top flight.
In September, several news outlets reported of the club’s players boycotting a cup game against Tosno, something that was denied by the club despite the fact that Rostov sent a squad consisting only of youngsters.
It is worth noticing that while the clubs are currently not allowed to register new players, they are allowed to sign them.
