RPL Week 20: Scores & Highlights

Finally, the RPL is back. Fans of the English Premier League have no idea what a truly winter break is, try experiencing three whole months with no football and gallons of snow…

Anyway, Krylia and Orenburg kicked off proceedings with a typical and well-fought 1-1 draw both sides may come to either thank or rue come the end of the season, depending upon which side of the relegation divide they end up on.

Of the entire top five, only Krasnodar picked up three points thanks to a 2-0 victory at home to Ufa - Ari and Marcus Berg grabbing the goals. Elsewhere, CSKA only drew at home to Ural thanks to a fabulous Mario Fernandes volley in the final minutes, Rostov drew in Grozny while Zenit and Loko finished 0-0 in a true battle of attrition.

Spartak took the spoils in the latest Moscow Derby, defeating Dinamo 2-0 & picked up their first victory at the new VEB Arena thanks to goals from Zelimkhan Bakaev and a renewed Roman Zobnin.

Tambov and Rubin drew 0-0 in Leonid Slutsky’s first game in charge of the 2023 European Champions & Europa League finals hosts, and finally, Arsenal rounded off the weekend’s games with a 2-1 victory over Sochi as Aleksander Kokorin played and scored for the first time since his arrest & release from prison and Evgeni Lutsenko picked up from where he left off before the break with a brace, the giant striker now has six goals and two assists in his last five league games.
