Champions League Preview: Manchester United – CSKA Moscow

Manchester United v CSKA Moscow - Tuesday, 5 December, 19:45 GMT, Old Trafford. CSKA Moscow goes into arguably the most important match in their recent history at the Theatre of Dreams, and you can't really get a bigger stage nor more difficult opposition for Viktor Goncharenko's men to guarantee they'll continue to play Champions League football in Spring 2018. First, here's the permutations from RFN statistician Alexey Spektrowski: CSKA advance to the Champions League knockout stage, … [Read more...]

International Preview: Russia – Spain

The match against Argentina was a promising performance, undone by some genuine quality and a glaringly obvious missed offside decision. Post-match, not quite the promising and more of the horrendous, with reports of overcrowding and over 1.5-hour queues and to get out of the Luzhniki and onto the Moscow Metro. Let's hope the game against Spain on Tuesday goes off without a hitch and proves the authorities are ready to organise the logistics of the World Cup next year. The team landed in St … [Read more...]

Champions League Preview: CSKA Moscow – BSC Young Boys

Playoff Round, Second Leg: Group Stages in Sight Viktor Goncharenko's CSKA side will return to the VEB-Arena tonight for the Second Leg of their Group Stage Playoff's with BSC Young Boys. However, this isn't to say that CSKA have no chance against … [Read more...]

There are many questions about Leonid Slutsky’s ability as CSKA coach - can he lead his team to the round of 16? It’s a rather paradoxical question to ask when we examine Leonid Slutsky’s … [Read more...]

1st Annual RFN “RPL First 11”

Our experts voted (with help from our twitter followers) for our Team of the Year.   We had no position requirements- experts could choose any formation they wanted.  All but one went with a 4-4-2, so that is what our team is.  CSKA Moscow, league Champions dominated our First 11. However the extent is incredibly- 7 out of the 11 are from the Champions, even though no voter chose over five CSKA representatives. This is perhaps a testament to CSKA's balance The back-line vote was by a … [Read more...]
