Akhmat Grozny – Three Name Changes, Two War’s and One Crazy Owner

Before this season we saw a change in names with the team of Grozny. The city which is located in the province of Chechnya. So what happened to Terek Grozny? Why is it now Akhmat Grozny? And how has the war and the destroyed city affect the city’s greatest football team? History of Chechnya To understand everything, we must start it all from the beginning. Chechnya was taken over by Russia as early as in the middle of the 19th century. It’s a province which possesses several large oil fields … [Read more...]

RFPL 2017/2018 – Who Has the Best Kit?

SKA-Khabarovsk Premier Liga newcomers, like some other teams, decided not to bother and use last year's kits. They probably figured that nobody saw it last season anyway, as the coverage of the FNL is almost criminally low. The kit itself is nothing special, but there is nothing to criticize either. I personally like their massive badge, which looks appropriate on this empty T-shirt. FC Tosno The club from the Leningrad Oblast, founded in 2013, still hasn't built its own identity. … [Read more...]

Terek Grozny’s Name Change – A Political Tool

In the recently finished season, Terek Grozny finished fifth. It was the best result ever by the Chechen side, who have played in the Russian Football Premier League since 2008. Under the guidance of head coach Rashid Rakhimov, who has led the club for three years, the team has developed gradually, finishing each season in a better position than in the last. Now however, it seems that the pressure on the team is about to skyrocket as the club has a new name. “Dear friends,” Ramzan Kadyrov, … [Read more...]

Mid-Season Review: Terek Grozny

Introduction Terek Grozny have been a pleasant surprise this season. The Chechen outfit, who finished 7th last year, are currently sitting in 4th, and they have once again made Akhmat Arena, where they have defeated Zenit, Rubin, Krasnodar and Rostov, a fortress. Although being a solid side with a good foundation, Terek weren’t expected to challenge for European football this season. During the summer, they lost Polish winger-turned-fullback Maciej Rybus, their top scorer and star player … [Read more...]

Betting Advice for RFPL Week 13

Andrew Flint (@AndrewMijFlint): Bet One: €5 Lokomotiv - Anzhi: Anzhi to win with +1 handicap @1.68 at bet365 Lokomotiv are a side bereft of imagination going forward and offer very little serious threat other than to weak sides with problems of their own. Granted, their defensive record is impressive at home with just four goals conceded, but Petar Skuletic, Igor Portnyagin and Ezekiel Henty are hardly the most fearsome strikeforce in the Premier League, and they aren’t even guaranteed a … [Read more...]

LIVE Ural 1-4 Terek

Welcome to the first live RFPL match blog! You've picked an absolute cracker to join us (absolutely no sarcasm intended, honest...) as Terek visit Ekaterinburg to take on struggling Ural. The temperature is hovering around zero with a fair whack of snow covering the ground outside the stadium,  but the pitch itself looks reasonably firm so fingers crossed for a decent game. Team news coming up shortly... No luck catching Chisa after the press conference, no luck for Skripchenko, and now … [Read more...]

The Grand Opening of Arena CSKA

Last weekend CSKA opened its new arena with a beautiful ceremony, which was unfortunately missed by many fans as they found out that the stadium is actually extremely well hidden. It is surrounded by a park and looks like some random office buildings, which makes it a perfect arena for the next Quidditch World Cup, as muggles won’t even notice it.   https://twitter.com/RusFootballNews/status/774640378280546304 Don’t try to meet your fellow supporters outside the arena if you don’t … [Read more...]

Maciej Rybus is Ready to Fly

Terek Grozny have been one of the surprises in the RFPL this season. The Chechen side have lost just four games all season, two of these coming in April, and they are currently sitting 6th in the league. One of the primary forces behind their impressive season so far has been the versatile Pole Maciej Rybus, who can play on both the wing and at the back. He has contributed with eight goals, which makes him Terek’s top scorer. Rybus, who has been with Terek since February 2012, does however … [Read more...]

Chechen President Ready to Sign Patriot Tarasov

With the exception of the Kremlin, almost everybody have shared their opinion on Dmitry Tarasov’s showing of a Vladimir Putin t-shirt following Lokomotiv Moscow’s defeat to Fenerbahce in the Europa League last week. Almost immediately after the game, UEFA issued a statement saying: “A player/team of a player that reveals an undergarment that shows political, religious, personal slogans, statements or images […] will be sanctioned by the competition organizer.” Dmitry Tarasov employer … [Read more...]
