Rubin Kazan’s Spanish centre back Cesar Navas looks set for pastures new this summer, as negotiations to extend his expiring contract seem to have stalled.
The 35 year old joined Rubin from Real Mallorca in 2009 for €2 million and has gone on to be a crucial part of their team, making 164 league appearances for the Kazan club, as well as representing them at Champions League and Europa League level, being part of the team that famously beat Barcelona 2-1 at the Camp Nou in 2009.

The former Real Madrid trainee, who captained Rubin in 2012, would have been expected to return to his homeland after the expiration of his contract, however Rubin Kazan manager Rinat Bilyaletdinov revealed this week that Navas has proposals from the MLS. While talking about the lack of experience in the current Rubin squad he said:
“With the possible departure of Cesar Navas to the MLS, the amount of players in our tanks with experience thinned a little.”
With reports that Navas wants a minimum salary of €1.5 million a year, the chances are that he would have to be one of the designated players if the United States is to be his destination. However there is another option on the table, which is to be reunited with the manager who initially signed him for Rubin, Kurban Berdyev, currently managing at fellow RPL side FC Rostov.
The opportunity for Navas to reunite with Berdyev at Rostov may be too good to turn down, though their financial situation could prove a stumbling block when it comes to negotiating terms.
Navas’ location is currently unknown as he is not training with Rubin in Austria, but the chances are his future could be decided very soon, whether that be with Rostov, in the MLS or a return to Spain.
